Johnby Hall
'Full of character and redolent of a long history… Johnby, with its potent evocation of northerly spirits, is a most unusual and singularly beguiling place.' ~Hugh Montgomery-Massingberd~
Johnby Hall is a haven of tranquility, surrounded by woodlands and pasture, at the centre of a traditional upland farming estate.
We are also situated a stone’s throw from some of England’s most spectacular scenery in the Lake District National Park; Ullswater and its famous steamer (Pooley Bridge) is about 8 miles’ drive, and Keswick-on-Derwentwater about 14 miles. Nearby mountains include Blencathra (Saddleback) and Skiddaw. A day out from Johnby by car can easily include any of the Lake District’s famous places; we can also point you in the direction of less well-known spots nearby including fells, charming villages and countryside.
Penrith (5 miles), a market town with an excellent array of specialist shops as well as banks and supermarkets, lies at the heart of the beautiful Eden Valley. Local tourist attractions include two historic houses and gardens, Hutton-in-the-Forest (3 miles) and Dalemain (4 miles); the award-winning Rheged visitor centre (3 miles); Brougham Castle (6 miles); and the craft shops of Caldbeck (9 miles).
Hadrian’s Wall, the Solway Coast, Morecambe Bay, the North Pennines and even the Yorkshire Dales are all easily accessible for those who want to make a longer day trip by car.
